Magnetic field sensor has a coil (1), a magnet (3), a pulse wire (2) and a memory element connected to the coil so that it stores the energy of the voltage pulse, which is then measured and used by an analysis element to determine the magnetic field direction. When the external magnetic field exceeds a positive or negative actuating strength then an abrupt change in magnetization direction occurs. The abrupt change in field causes an electrical voltage to be induced in the coil. The storage element is typically a capacitor that is charged from the coil via a diode. The capacitor is prevented from discharging through the coil by the diode.
