Process for controlling and stabilizing the pH during material separation or decontamination comprises removing the catholyte or anolyte produced during primary electrolysis and subjecting to auxiliary electrolysis
Process for controlling and stabilizing the pH during material separation or decontamination in soils, slurries or other pasty media comprises removing the catholyte or anolyte produced during primary electrolysis and subjecting to auxiliary electrolysis. Excess hydroxide or hydronium ion is neutralized by forming hydronium or hydroxide ions and the neutralized electrolyte is recycled to the reaction chamber. Required materials or material groups to be extracted or removed are separated by separators built into the cycle. Controlling of the pH prevents the uncontrolled formation of acid and base fronts in the medium and thus directly influences the solubility and mobility of the material or material groups to be extracted or removed to considerably reduce the energy requirement. An Independent claim is also included for a device for controlling and stabilizing the pH during material separation or decontamination in soils, slurries or other pasty media comprising several auxiliary electrolysis cells connected in parallel or in series to a primary electrolysis cell.
