Catalyst made entirely from metal and used for oxidation of gaseous reductant pollutants, is made by hot oxidation and reduction treatment of alloy, with structure designed to limit turbulent regions and avoid hot spots
The pollutants, CO, HC, and/or soot are oxidized by a catalyst. This is a hot-oxidized, solid metal alloy. The catalyst is treated in an oxygen-containing atmosphere at 250 deg C - 1250 deg C, for 0.05-5 hours. Treatment with an organic reductant follows. A structure of continuous separation walls or partitions is provided to limit turbulent flow regions. The cross sectional area is 0.01-1000,000 m2, with spacing measured transversely with respect to the flow, of 0.1-100 mm. Preferred features: The partitions are thin sheet and/or band- and/or tube materials, formed from activated material. The exclusively metal catalyst is composed entirely of partitions. In addition to the partitions, the catalyst also includes wire and/or swarf-like materials, which are activated.
