The multi-link shelf comprises a plate of individual segments (1) connected together through force or keyed engagement and able to roll up or concertina in a guide and extend into a rigid free-supporting surface. The segments can be extended mechanically or manually and can be spread out on a folding table frame which itself comprises movable interconnected individual parts. The multi-link plate can be rapidly released in emergency cases to return to its stowage position and prevent injury to personnel.
