Process for suppressing the formation of scale comprises separating off the rolled material in the region of the scale scrubber and/or behind the scrubber to prevent and/or reduce a renewed reaction with atmospheric oxygen with a gas atmosphere suppressing it, where a flue gas produced within the process especially with a slab furnace is used to form a gas atmosphere.
