Cutting a natural material body (1), such as tree trunk, into several useful parts (2) involves .measuring the body (1) and calculating the optimum division of the body (1) by means of a three-dimensional optimization procedure depending on the measured geometry and on the required geometry of the resultant useful parts (2) or of a useful body (3) composed of the useful parts (2).The calculated cutting is then carried out by the cutting device, and the alignment of the cut is repeated until all the calculated cutting is complete.
