The bar shaped unit of changeable length with an integrated piezoelectric actuator comprises at least one additional piezoelectric actuator (30) arranged in series with the original actuator, two bars (10, 20) arranged in series so that they can slide parallel to the piezoelectric actuators, and a displacement amplifier (50) which transforms displacements of the piezoelectric actuators into larger displacements of the bars (10, 20). Also claimed is an alternative unit with a single bar, a piezoelectric actuator and a displacement amplifier.
