The energy of a second fired charge is passed by laser beam (12) to apply additional force to the projectile (14) base (13) firing a high-explosive charge. The projectile material can withstand loads beyond proportionality limits and yield to prevent system destruction using the laser beam as primary projectile energy so the mechnical energy as accumulated kinetically can be directed toward the fast-moving target, achieving speeds and height comparable to rockets and with superior cost benefit.
