The sliding sunroof has at least one sunroof panel (4) which is displaced rearwards for revealing the sunroof opening along a pair of guide rails (8) on either side of the sunroof opening, which follow the contour of the fixed part of the automobile roof. A sliding roof screen (5) positioned below the sunroof panel is operated independent of the latter, by displacement along a second pair of guide rails (9), for selective closure of the sunroof opening, the guide rails for the sliding roof screen extending at an acute angle to the guide rails for the sunroof panel.
