The invention relates to a method for determining the quality of a connection, especially a thermal splice between optical waveguides. The inventive method comprises the steps: optically detecting the connection as at least one image; allocating data values, especially luminosity values, to the individual image areas; supplying a neuronal network with the data values; determining the quality of the connection by means of the configuration of the neuronal network; and outputting an evaluation with regard to the quality on the output side of the neuronal network.
