Procedure has the following steps: determination of the speed of the driver's own vehicle; if zero, determination of whether the vehicle (2) in front is moving away; generation of an output signal if the vehicle in front has begun to move away; production of a tactile stimulus in the foot space of the driver's vehicle and optionally switching on of the vehicle engine. The device for determination of whether the vehicle in front has started to move a way is a distance sensor (5) such as an infrared or ultrasound sensor.
