The device (12) has a siren (18) including a housing (20) with an electronic control circuit (22) and a sound production assembly (24). An electrical connector (30) connects the siren to a control unit of a car. The siren is set to an alarm mode upon detection of intrusion attempt on the car, and the sound production assembly is controlled by the electronic circuit to emit an audible alarm. The siren is set to a buzzer mode when the car moves so as to emit audible sound effects to warn pedestrians or animals, where the level of sound depends on speed of the car. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a siren.
