Method for predicting resistance to ethambutol in mycobacteria, isolated from cultures or clinical material, based on detecting a mutation in codon 306 of the embB resistance gene. A part of this gene is amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the mutation is detected in a restriction reaction using NlaIII. An Independent claim is also included for a reagent kit for the process containing PCR primers and/or restriction enzymes (RE).
