Predicting resistance to ethambutol in mycobacteria, useful for selection of treatment, by detecting specific mutation in the embB resistance gene

Method for predicting resistance to ethambutol in mycobacteria, isolated from cultures or clinical material, based on detecting a mutation in codon 306 of the embB resistance gene. A part of this gene is amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the mutation is detected in a restriction reaction using NlaIII. An Independent claim is also included for a reagent kit for the process containing PCR primers and/or restriction enzymes (RE).
