A surface treatment method for glass bottles involves application of a solution of a polyalkylene glycol mono- or diether nonionic surfactant (I). A surface treatment method for glass bottles involves application of a solution of a polyglycol ether nonionic surfactant of formula RO-(CH(R')CH2O)n-CH(R')CH2OR'' (I). R = optionally unsaturated 8-20C alkyl; R' = H and/or 1-3C alkyl; R'' = H or 1-8C alkyl; n = not defined. An Independent claim is also included for a solution for carrying out the process, comprising 1-30 wt. % (I) and 70-99 wt. % of a volatile solvent (preferably a 1-3C alcohol).
