The dishwasher has a drying device with a heat exchanger in the door that feeds moist air out of container via moist air channel fresh air in from outside via fresh air channel. The fresh air flows transversely with respect to the moist air. A fan in the door above the heat exchanger sucks moist and fresh air from near the upper part of the door and forces moist air and fresh air horizontally through the heat exchanger. The dishwasher has a washing container that can be closed by a door and a device (1) for drying washed items with a heat exchanger (2) mounted in the door that feeds moist air out of the washing container via a moist air channel (4) and feeds fresh air in from outside via a fresh air channel (5), whereby the fresh air flows transversely with respect to the moist air. A common fan (3) for the moist and fresh air channels mounted in the door above the heat exchanger sucks moist and fresh air from near the upper part of the door and forces moist air and fresh air horizontally through the heat exchanger.
