The method is carried out so that the existence of a gear changing phase is adopted for a determined time after the beginning of the gear change. The system for identifying gear changes of a gearbox of a vehicle includes a control unit which has at least one input circuit, at least one microcomputer and at least one output circuit. These elements are connected with each other by a communication system. The microcomputer contains a programme, which accepts the existence of a gear changing phase for a determined time after the start of the gear change.
