The winch drive uses an electronically-commutated DC motor and an intermediate gearing coupled to the reef profile around which the sail is wound. The electric motor is provided by a synchronous motor with a coincides permanent magnet rotor (10) with a rotation axis (11) which with the gearing drive shaft, enclosed by a stator (1) provided with a ring of stator coils (14,14') about the rotation center of the rotor.
