A highly luminescent light source front cover is coated with or contains highly luminescent alkaline earth metal aluminates. A highly luminescent transparent front cover, for mounting in front of a light source, comprises highly luminescent alkaline earth metal aluminates (greater than 30 mcd/m2 after 1 hr.) or their mixtures or combinations with weakly luminescent metal sulfides or selenides which are applied as an optionally structured layer or are integrated in the front cover.
