The four-joint hinge of the bonnet has at least one link(6), the joint(9) of which, located on a part of the bonnet and on the body of the vehicle, is positionally adjustable under the load of an impacting pedestrian. The adjustable link is pretensioned in its neutral position by an energy accumulator(16) which has a spring. The energy accumulator may have a deformable component which converts the impact energy into deformation energy by plastic form change of the component part. An Independent claim is included for a four-joint hinge with links adjustable under an overload.
