Process for improving the surface properties of a low-alloyed tempering steel comprises carrying out edge-decarburization to a depth that corresponds to specified percentage of the steel composition found below the surface
Process for improving the surface properties of a low-alloyed tempering steel comprises uniformly edge-decarburizing the low-alloyed martensitically convertible steel in one or more processing steps of its heat treatment. The edge-decarburization is carried out with a depth that corresponds to 1-15% of the steel composition found below the surface. The edge-decarburized layer becomes martensitic on conversion during the chilling without a self-starting effect. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement of several steel wire rods produced by the process.
