New N-terminal fragment of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 and its complexes with growth factors for treatment and diagnosis of e.g. muscular atrophy
Peptide N-IGFBP-3 (the N-terminal fragment of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3) (I), or its biologically active fragments, analogs and/or derivatives, or synthetic peptides and complexes of (I) with hIGF (human insulin-like growth factor)-I or II, or their biologically active fragments and/or derivatives or synthetic peptides, are new. The peptide (I) has the following formula: GASSAGLGPVVRCEPCDARALAQCAPPPAVCAELVREPGCGCCLTCALSEGQPCGIYTERCGSGLRCQPS PDEARPLQALLDGRGLCVNASAVSRLRA-Z; Z = 0-5 amino acids The preferred derivatives are, for (I), forms with amino acid alterations, or, for both (I) and its complexes, glycosylated, amidated, acetylated, sulfated and phosphorylated forms. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an isolated nucleic acid (II) encoding (I) and/or its fragments, derivatives or analogs; (2) a vector (III) containing (II) where this is DNA; (3) genetically modified host cells containing (III); (4) a DNA that hybridizes to the DNA encoding (I); (5) an antibody (Ab), antagonist or inhibitor directed against (I) or its complexes; (6) a pharmaceutical composition containing (I) and a carrier; (7) methods for producing (I); (8) a diagnostic kit that contains: (i) mono- or poly-clonal Ab; or (ii) nucleotide sequences that bind to nucleic or RNA encoding (I); and (9) a diagnostic kit containing (I) or its complexes.
