The invention relates to a method for processing a signal generated according to the multi-frequency dialing method. According to said method, the signal is scanned and a time-discrete sequence of scanned values (xn) is produced. On the basis of said scanned values, frequency and amplitude dimensions(FM1, FM2, AM1, AM2) are detected, which correspond to a low frequency group (LG) or a high frequency group (HG). Said dimensions (FM1, FM2, AM1, AM2) are compared with predetermined set values. If the detected dimensions (FM1, FM2, AM1, AM2) match the set values, the signal is then identified as a signaling information carrier.
