The plausibility check is carried out by deriving a first charge information (11) according to the throttle valve position (dk) and a differential pressure (dps) detected from the pressure in front of the throttle valve and the pressure behind the throttle valve. Furthermore, a second charge information (l2) is deviated according to the valve inlet lift (vv) and the engine speed (nmot). The smaller of the two charge information units (11, l2) is compared with the measured charge (lhfm). An error (fhfm) of the measured charge (lhfm) is signalled when said measured charge (lhfm) deviates from the charge information (l1, l2).
