Surface scanning method for three-dimensional (3-D) object, uses evaluation of camera image of 3-D light pattern moved across object surface

The scanning method has a 3-D light pattern (5) projected into space, with known position coordinates relative to a reference point, with detection of the pattern via a digital camera (3) during its movement relative to the scanned object (7) and subsequent analysis of the camera image, for detecting the initial point of contact with the scanned object. An Independent claim is also included for a scanning and/or measuring device for the surface of a 3-D object.
