The electrically-assisted bicycle has an electric motor (2) coupled to an electronic control (1) dependent on the signal from a bicycle velocity indicator (11) and a signal from a biomechanical movement direction sensor (8). The electronic control defines limits for the mechanical motor parameters, e.g. the revs, output and torque, detected from the motor electrical parameters, with the motor characteristic field divided into motor operating regions which are activated and de-activated via the biomechanical movement direction sensor.
