The rear passenger seat has a lever (12) supporting the front of the seat squab (1) from the floor pan of the passenger compartment, which is released when the seat backrest (2) is folded down over the seat squab, for extending the rear load space. The backrest has an extension (9) projecting downwards beyond its pivot axis (7) coupled via a cable (10) to the lever, the lower end of the latter displaced along a guide rail (14) attached to the floor pan.
