The method involves determining the driver type by measuring the fuel consumption. A desired value for the fuel consumption is determined on the basis of the actual operation point of the engine and the fuel consumption required to overcome the travelling resistance, comparing it with an average measured actual value and obtaining a measurement for the driver type or a correction for the parameter.
