A cooling and/or freezing apparatus (2) has a rear side (4), a lid (6) and a niche (8) for a coolant compressor (10). The niche is located on the apparatus rear side directly under the lid. A coolant liquefier (32) is designed as a rear wall liquefier and is located directly under the niche on the apparatus rear side. In the niche is provided a noise shielding for the coolant compressor that has holes which allow the passage of a cooling air flow through the niche. A rear-side air channel (36) open only to the top and bottom is provided in which the coolant liquefier and coolant compressor are located in the flow direction of the air.
