Internal combustion engine with two exhaust gas turbochargers for motor vehicle, has control unit that increases/decreases variable geometry turbine cross-section for high/low engine speed
The engine has two exhaust gas turbochargers (2,3) in series, an exhaust gas turbine with variable turbine geometry (6) for variably setting the effective turbine cross-section and a fixed geometry exhaust gas turbine (4). The variable geometry turbine is arranged between the cylinder outlet and the fixed geometry turbine. A signal that sets the position of the variable turbine geometry according to the engine speed and/or engine power is generated to increase the variable geometry turbine cross-section and reduce it for lower engine speed. An Independent claim is also included for a method of operating an internal combustion engine.
