New synergistic combination of an anticoagulant and unicellular parasite sporocysts, e.g., warfarin and Sarcocystis singaporensis sporocysts, is useful in killing rodents

Novel agent comprises sporocysts of at least one type of unicellular parasite and at least one anticoagulant active agent. - ACTIVITY : Rodenticidal; anticoagulant. In tests, brown rats ( Rattus norvegicus) were treated with Sarcocystis singaporensis sporocysts, coumatetralyl or a combination of these two components. A first group of rats was treated with a suspension of 10,000 sporocysts in 0.5 ml of polyethylene glycol 300, and all rats survived. A second group was treated with coumatetralyl (6 mg/kg) using 0.06 ml of a 1% solution of the active agent in polyethylene glycol 300, and 5 out of 6 rats survived. A third group of rats was treated with 10,000 sporocysts and 6 mg/kg coumatetralyl, and all rats died. - MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given.
