Test kit for detecting, in aqueous solutions, alkylating-type chemical warfare agents that act on the skin. The kit comprises: (i) a solution of 4-(4-nitrobenzyl)pyridine (II) in acetone or acetonitrile; (ii) a halogen-free organic solvent (III) and (iii) a strong alkali hydroxide (IV). An Independent claim is also included for a method of detecting (I) in aqueous solution using this kit.
