The catheter system for brachytherapy comprises a centerable catheter (3) accommodating a therapy wire (3) with a radiation source (4), and an afterloader unit with a computer controlled electromotor serving for displacement of the therapy wire. The catheter system for brachytherapy comprises a centerable catheter (3) accommodating a therapy wire (3) with a radiation source (4), and an afterloader unit with a computer controlled electromotor serving for displacement of the therapy wire. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating such catheter system. It involves use of a test wire for determination of the radiation profile and hence the corresponding rate of displacement for the therapy wire which subsequently is introduced into the catheter to replace the test wire.
