The linear drive has a primary part (3), attached to a carriage (1) which is displaced along a guide system via a cooperating secondary part (4), with a distance piece (5) between the primary part and the carriage for increasing the spacing between the primary part and the secondary part. The distance piece may be provided by a blind plate, with a thickness of several mm., having a number of slits for reception of the screw fixings used to secure the primary part to the carriage.
