Guiding device for the rail wheels of a two-way vehicle comprises functional components, e.g. a steering mechanism, attached in front of the steering wheels of the vehicle. A rail axle with the rail wheels is provided in front of or behind the wheels and is raised or lowered using a lifting cylinder (7). In addition to the lifting cylinder mounting the front rail axle is fixed to a free cylinder (8) which slides in or against the direction of travel. Preferred Features: The free cylinder is positioned in a drawer-like housing (1) arranged on the vehicle frame so that it can tilt.
