The lashing locks yield until the couplings between the container take load at which time the locks go rigid. The lock tensioner (13) has an inbuilt spring (27) with path endstop. The tensioner (13) itself has a threaded spindle (20) whose end axially sliding in the connector (19) is fitted with a spindle nut (23). The spring (27) fits in between nut and connector (19) abutment (21) in the form of a coil spring. The spring has foot and head plates (27,28) and the spring endstop is placed between foot and head plates preferably in sleeve form. The width of the gap (40) forming between stop sleeve and respective spring plate when the spring is slack equals the minimum play between the couplings and corner brackets of the stacked containers.
