Incoming fluid is taken by a first hose (5) sealed into the pipeline (2) and thence into a collector (12). Pump (14) pumps out the collected (12) fluid (13) and transfers it into a second hose (18), using this pump (14) or a post-mounted crusher (21) to crush down the solid content of the fluid (13). The operation of the pump and crusher if used are governed by the level in the collector (2) as monitored by a sensor (15) comprising a float or noncontact pressure. The two hoses are releasably connected to the housing (10) containing the pump, collector and crusher. A pump-up collar seal (6) is provided at the hose (5) end entering the pipeline (2) to seal off the fluid, using a hand pump as a rubber bellows to inflate the seal.
