摘要
A device for production of ozone has an ionization tube (2), with a thin glass or PTFE wall (3), containing an inner electrode (5) maintained at a high electrical potential relative to an outer electrode (7), by a high voltage source (6). An oxygen containing gas is fed through the ionization tube, and is partially converted to ozone. The tube (2) may be straight or, preferably spiral-coiled, and at least part of its length is occupied by the inner electrode, which may take the form of a single wire spiral, a plaited wire cord, or a conductively coated capillary tube. The outer electrode (7) may be a metal tube surrounding the ionization tube (2), or a conductive coating (7), formed by vapor deposition, on the outer surface of tube (2). The ionization tube (2) is enclosed by a tubular jacket (14) which allows a coolant to be circulated around it e.g. air from a fan (19); the ionization tube may be spiral wound over a metal former tube (13), closed at least at its end adjacent the fan, to maximize air flow rate past the ionization tube. Typically a 0.1 mm section, spiral wire electrode has a diameter of 4 mm, for use in an ionization tube of 5 mm internal diameter , with 1 mm wall thickness; a capillary electrode is approx. 4 mm x 5 mm (i.d.x o.d). A potential of 5000 V provided from a 220 V, 50 Hz, 1.8 A power supply is typically required.
