The lead cable winding-in and paying-out method uses an electric motor (3) for rotation of the cable drum (1) for the lead cable (2) in the paying-out direction after initial manual extraction of the lead cable, with simultaneous tensioning of a spring (5) used for rotation of the cable drum in the opposite direction, for automatic winding-in of the lead cable. A compensation element (12) may be provided between cable drum and a drive shaft (10) rotated by the electric motor, for compensating the variations in the radius of the lead cable wound onto the cable drum.
