Silver halide emulsion is chemically sensitized with selenoacyl-alkylidene-triorganylphosphane compound(s) (I) with a (cyclo)alkyl, (het)aryl, perfluoroalkyl, ester or amide group. Silver halide emulsion is chemically sensitized with selenoacyl-alkylidene-triorganylphosphane compound(s) (I) with a (cyclo)alkyl, (het)aryl, perfluoroalkyl, ester or amide group of formula (I); R1, R2, R3 = (substituted) (cyclo)aliphatic, aromatic or carbon (C)-bound heterocyclic group; R4 = (substituted) (cyclo)aliphatic, aromatic, C-bound heterocyclic, perfluoroalkyl, ester or amide group; R5 = hydrogen (H) or a (substituted) (cyclo)aliphatic, aromatic or carbon (C)-bound heterocyclic group; or R4R5, R1R2 = a ring. An Independent claim is also included for photographic material with a base and silver halide emulsion layers, including at least one containing the specified emulsion(s).
