The device incorporates an unlocking device (13) for the head restraint and two springs (12,17). There is one actuator unit (18,21) only to release the unlocking device and to tension the second spring to return the head restraint into upright position. The actuator unit in turn is actuated by the folding-down/up movement of the backrest. Release of the unlocking device also unlocks a safety locking unit (4), which prevents unintentional movement of the head restraint into lowered position.
