Heat released from the burner (9) is supplied to the input (8) of a thermal transfer element (6). On its output side, a heat sink (11), continuously removes heat at a defined rate. One or more thermal state parameters of the heat transfer element is/are measured (12) and controlled by adjustment of the rate of thermal input- and/or output. An independent claim is included for the corresponding gas calorimeter.
