Procedure has the following steps: counting of the number of pulses from an external reference signal and from a ring oscillator timing frequency signal over identical time periods and determination of the ring oscillator frequency by comparison of the number of pulses of the two signals. Independent claims are made for a ring oscillator timer frequency measurement circuit for execution of the above procedure and a microcomputer using such a circuit.
