The method involves generating (SG) a two phase jet of carrier gas and dry ice particles and feeding the jet to an opening (SA), directing the jet to the surface to be cleaned and maintaining a safe distance from the opening with an at least partly electrically insulated distance arrangement (L) connected to the opening and containing control elements and with at least one handle (HG) or hand support. Independent claims are also included for the following: a cleaning device, the use of a cleaning device for cleaning the surfaces of system parts carrying a high voltage and the use of a particle beam consisting of a pressurized gas as a carrier medium and dry ice particles carried by it.
