Process for the powder metallurgy production of metal bodies comprises mixing a metal compound powder such as oxide powder with an additive which improves the rheology, such as a plastic; removing the additive; and reducing the metal compound using a reducing gas. Preferred Features: Reduction is carried out at high temperatures. The porous molded body produced by reducing the metal component is compressed before being sintered. The metal compounds are iron oxides, nickel oxides and/or molybdenum oxides.
