Production of a chromate-deficient building material made from a mixture of cement as hydraulic binder, water and additives such as sand or flint comprises adding iron (II) sulfate to the mixture during mixing. An Independent claim is also included for a container for cement comprising a reservoir (2), especially a sack, for the cement and a depot (3) for the iron (II) sulfate which can be detached from the cement reservoir. Preferred Features: The iron (II) sulfate is added in an amount of 0.01-3 wt.%.
