The field control body has a first region with a first length for application to the end section of the conductor insulation and covered with a conducting coating, a second region with a second length for application to the conductor connection part and an electrical control sleeve and an intermediate region. For finite lengths the wall thickness and the field control effect in the first region are achieved by a conductive coating on the external surface of the field control body for contact with earth potential. The field control body (8) has a first region (12) with a first length for application to the end section of the conductor insulation and covered with a conducting coating, a second region (16) with a second length for application to the conductor connection part and an electrical control sleeve. The second region has a second wall thickness at least equal to the insulation thickness at the maximum permissible rated voltage and a minimum length required for insulation. The wall thickness rises to the second wall thickness in an intermediate third region (14). For finite lengths the wall thickness and the field control effect in the first region are achieved by a conductive coating (18) on the external surface of the field control body for contact with earth potential.
