The system has mutually engaging spur wheels (3) for stepping up the revolution rate of the drive engine (1) and shaft (2) and a hydrodynamic coupling (5) mounted on the rapidly rotating shaft (4) to further transfer the drive power via a second rapidly rotating shaft (6), from which the revolution rate of the shaft (8) driving the propeller (9) is reduced by two or more mutually engaging gear wheels (7).
