Travel takes place along a spur rack extending over the length to be covered, for a machine used for extracting minerals in an underground mine. The machine has a wormgear unit (13), connected to its winch for drive (10), or equipped with a drive motor of its own. This is rotatably mounted on the body (2) or frame of the machine, with its axis parallel to the length of the spur rack (8), and engaging a spur rack with serration corresponding to the teeth shape on a wormgear wheel. The wormgear can be tapered in a truncated conical shape at both ends. Space needed for the machine winch inside the machine body can be reduced.
