Method of inhibiting scale formation and corrosion in systems conveying or in contact with liquids involves treating the liquid in such a way that the molar fraction of magnesium (Mg) and Mg compounds is increased with respect to the molar fraction of other salts causing hardness. An Independent claim is also included for equipment for this purpose, comprising (1) a unit for softening the liquid and (2) another unit for increasing its hardness.
