Production of a layer made of a magnetic material of the material system SE-FE-B (where, SE = rare earth, and FE = ferromagnetic) having a hard magnetic phase on a support body comprises applying layer (6) made of a pre-material of the magnetic material on a support body (5) at an oxygen partial pressure of less than 0.1 Pa; and forming a magnetic material with a hard magnetic phase in the layer by melting the pre-material using a laser beam (12).
